Bill Whalen hardly recognized the featured performer at the Capitol on Wednesday night.
Sure, the man was introduced in the Assembly chambers as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And, yeah, he was a Schwarzenegger doppelgänger - even sounding like the erstwhile Hollywood star, what with that thick Austrian accent.
But the guy delivering the 2005 State of the State address couldn't possibly have been the same Schwarzenegger with whom Whalen collaborated on a September 2001 speech for the Perspectives symposium in Sacramento.
Could he?
